POUNCE Scores at Saratoga In Lake George (G3)

Sunday, July 21, 2024

Highgate graduate POUNCE was back in the winner’s circle on Saturday with a win in the Lake George Stakes (G3) at Saratoga.

Coming here after finishing third in the Penn Oaks, POUNCE was happy to settle near the back of midpack in the one-mile turf race. It wasn’t until the field turned into the stretch that she really made her presence in the field felt after slipping through a hole.

The final furlong saw POUNCE fly down the outside to fly past the leaders and win by three quarters of a length for Resolute Racing and Mark Casse.

“A lot of them went on there and were dinging it up there, so I was happy to tuck in. She started trying me down the backside, so I just allowed her to inch up down the backside and then I got into a great spot on the second turn,” said jockey Dylan Davis. “I was very happy there. I just waited for a spot to open up to push out and when I pushed out, she responded really nicely. She was finding more, she was actually really just getting started because she was tough to pull up after the race.”

Sold by Highgate for a Fasig-Tipton February Digital Sale-topping price of $370,000 to Resolute Bloodstock, this is the second graded stakes win and third stakes placing for POUNCE since going through the ring.

The 3-year-old was consigned on behalf of Quintessential Racing Florida and Hat Creek Racing just days after winning an Allowance Optional Claiming race by 2 ¼ lengths in February.

Highgate currently has two offerings in this month’s Digital Sale. Find both horses and our upcoming yearling consignments on the Sales page.
