A successful runner since selling from Highgate’s Keeneland November Horses of Racing Age Sale for $100,000 last year, Midnight Rising went one step farther on Saturday with a third-place finish in the Marine Stakes (G3).
Racing for Surfside Stables, he became the first Highgate graduate to earn blacktype after being sold by as part of a Highgate consignment. All of Midnight Rising’s success has come since November, with the gelding breaking his maiden in his first start post-sale at Turfway Park.
Trained by Jordan Blair, Midnight Rising has finished on the board in three of his runs since selling with Highgate and added his first bit of blacktype in Canada.
The 3-year-old was one of the back markers in the Woodbine race before making a move around the turn. Coming wide into the stretch, he quickly passed most of the field to show the trip across the border was well worth the travel.
