Just weeks before Highgate offers another quality draft at the Keeneland November Horses of All Ages sale, 2022 graduate Everso Mischievous won the Forty Niner Stakes (G2) at Belmont at the Big A.
Winning his first stakes last out in the Harrods Creek Stakes, he rewarded his connections’ decision to step him up to harder competition in his graded stakes debut. The colt shadowed Swiftsure through the early stages of the one-mile dirt race while racing a few paths wide. He closed on that runner with another rival alongside him with just over three furlongs to go and under urging from Cristian Torres made a big move in the turn.
The 3-year-old swung wide into the stretch to take the lead and showed his determination throughout that run when holding off multiple horses to win by half a length in the end.

“He’s a nice horse, so he finished up. They always thought this was a nice horse. In the beginning of his career, he was a little green, but it was just a matter of time that he’d mature. They put blinkers on him at Saratoga and he improved a lot. They’re very happy, I’m very happy, and I’m very grateful to ride this kind of horse,” Torres said.
Everso Mischievous was sold for $85,000 to Fergus Galvin at last November’s Keeneland November Horses of Racing Age Sales and has earned $524,640 since the sale and currently has a three-race win streak.
