It was a second Thoroughbred Daily News ‘Rising Star’ hailing from Highgate’s 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale consignment on Saturday when the China Horse Club-bred Agate Road impressively won a Saratoga Maiden Special Weight.
Racing over 1 1/16 miles on the turf for his second career start, Agate Road broke from the widest position of all and was last early on before quickly catching up to the back of the field. Going multiple paths wide into the first turn, Agate Road settled down the backside but still had nearly 10 lengths in front of him to reach the leaders as they entered the turn.
The colt showed why he went off as the heavy favorite in the stretch when he went from 5 3/4 lengths back entering the final eighth to get his neck in front at the line.
Is it a bird, a plane? No, it’s AGATE ROAD mowin’ them all down on the Saratoga turf! 🎪⛳️ Sold on behalf of @Chinahorseclub to @RepoleStable & St. Elias Stable @keenelandsales – congrats to all! pic.twitter.com/HrmtnbZUib

Offered on behalf of China Horse Club at last year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Agate Road was a $650,000 purchase by racing owners Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable at the sale.
Agate Road joins Heartland as TDN Rising Stars offered at Keeneland September on behalf of China Horse Club with that winner coming a month ago. You can see the horses offered in our 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale consignment here.
